Gold Souk

8.2(14,058 reviews)

Deira · Dubai - Al Ras - Dubai - United Arab Emirates

Website

Marked by a wooden arch, this bustling bazaar features many stores selling dazzling gold jewellery.

The Gold Souk in Deira is one of the most spectacular covered marketplaces in the world - a long arcade of hundreds of jewellers displaying more than ten tonnes of gold at any given time. Necklaces, bangles, rings, and intricate Arabic jewellery cascade from every shopfront in 18, 21, 22, and 24-carat gold, alongside diamonds and precious stones. Browsing is entirely free and the atmosphere - traders calling from doorways, incense drifting through the covered lanes - is pure, unfiltered Old Dubai. Gold in the souk is priced by weight to the daily spot rate plus a making charge; the rate is fixed so comparison shopping on the making charge is worthwhile. Visit on a weekday morning for the most relaxed experience. Combine the visit with the nearby Spice Souk and an abra ride across the Creek for a half-day that captures a Dubai largely unchanged in decades.
