Dubai is a night city by design - for half the year the evening is when it becomes usable, and the best of it wakes up after sunset. The fountain fires, the souks fill, the desert cools to perfect and the Creek turns to moving light.
Ten evenings, curated and scored, from completely free to full production. In summer, treat this list as the daily schedule rather than the alternative one.

Dubai Creek Dhow Dinner Cruise
Dinner aboard a wooden dhow drifting up Dubai Creek is the city's most atmospheric evening - the gold souq, spice souq and lit-up waterfront sliding past while you eat. It is unhurried in a way almost nothing else in Dubai is.
The Insider Move
Book the 8:30pm departure - better light on the water and quieter than the 7pm sitting.

Dubai Fountain Show
The Dubai Fountain runs its choreographed shows every evening on the Burj Lake, firing water 150 metres into the air to a rotating soundtrack. It remains the best free spectacle in the Gulf, and the crowds thin noticeably after the first two shows.
The Insider Move
Watch from the boardwalk with the Burj Khalifa behind the water for the full postcard - later shows are far less crowded.

Desert Safari with BBQ Dinner
The evening desert safari in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve ends with a BBQ dinner under a sky you forget the city can produce - falconry at dusk, dunes going gold, then proper darkness and stars. The desert at night is the best version of the desert.
The Insider Move
Book the conservation reserve safaris over the cheaper dune-bashing runs - smaller groups, better food and the stargazing is the point.

Museum of the Future, Exterior & Plaza
After dark the Museum of the Future switches on - the calligraphy that wraps the torus glows against the Sheikh Zayed Road skyline, and the plaza around it is free to wander. Ten minutes of architecture doing theatre.
The Insider Move
Come after 8pm when the illumination is fully on and the daytime crowds are gone - the raised walkway gives the cleanest angle.

Deira Gold Souq & Spice Souq
The Deira souks at night are the oldest nightlife in the city - covered lanes buzzing under the lights, gold windows blazing, spice sacks perfuming the alleys. Evening is when the souks are actually alive; daytime is just shopping.
The Insider Move
Combine with the abra crossing at 8pm - souks, boat, and the lit-up Creek in one two-hour loop that costs almost nothing.

Abra Creek Crossing
The abra crossing after dark is Dubai's cheapest great experience upgraded - the same century-old wooden boat, but with the Creek's lights doubling on the water. One dirham, five minutes, completely memorable.
The Insider Move
The 8pm crossing is the classic - stand at the rail on the Deira side for the best view of the lit waterfront.

Dubai Marina Walk
Dubai Marina Walk is built for the after-dark hours - seven kilometres of promenade under lit towers, superyachts at their moorings and dinner options the whole way round. In summer it only really begins after 7pm.
The Insider Move
Walk counterclockwise from Pier 7 and finish at The Walk for dinner - the tower lights are best from the water's far side.

Bahri Bar
Bahri Bar at Madinat Jumeirah is the definitive Dubai sundowner - an over-water terrace with the Burj Al Arab lit up close enough to touch, abras drifting through the waterways below. Arrive at dusk and stay through the transition.
The Insider Move
The Burj Al Arab view tables go first - book ahead and time your arrival thirty minutes before sunset.

Lucky Voice
Lucky Voice at JBR is private-room karaoke done properly - good cocktails, a catalogue deep enough for every era and rooms where the group's dignity stays between friends. The reliably great third act of any Dubai night.
The Insider Move
Book a private room for groups of six or more - the walk-in bar slots go early on weekends.

White Dubai
White Dubai at Meydan is the open-air superclub the city's nightlife reputation is built on - world-class DJs, a production budget that shows and a crowd that arrives at midnight. When the night is meant to end at 3am, it ends here.
The Insider Move
It gets going after 11pm - book a table if you want a base, and check the DJ programme before committing the night.
