The Dubai Opera House building - designed to resemble a traditional dhow - is one of Downtown Dubai's most elegant pieces of architecture, and the plaza surrounding it regularly hosts free outdoor events, pop-up markets and live performances throughout the season. The structure is dramatic from outside, and simply walking around the building and through the waterfront plaza is worth a visit even without a ticketed show. The adjacent Opera Gallery and the waterfront promenade make this an excellent hour-long evening stroll. When a performance is on, the plaza outside fills with people who haven't bought tickets simply enjoying the atmosphere and the building.
