Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood

8.9(17,899 reviews)

Al Fahidi · Dubai - Al Souq Al Kabeer - Al Fahidi - Dubai - United Arab Emirates

Website

Area of traditional-style buildings in typical materials housing arts & cultural exhibits & museums.

Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood - also known as Al Bastakiya - is the oldest surviving residential district in Dubai, a beautifully preserved warren of narrow lanes, wind-tower houses, and art galleries that transports visitors to the Dubai of the early twentieth century. The neighbourhood houses the Dubai Museum, several excellent free galleries, the Arabian Tea House, and the atmospheric XVA Hotel courtyard - wander freely and let the labyrinthine alleyways reveal themselves. It is most beautiful in the early morning when the light is soft and the lanes are quiet. Combine a visit with an abra crossing to the Gold and Spice Souks on the Deira side of the creek - the short boat journey frames the neighbourhood from the water in a way that nothing else does. Allow two to three hours for a proper visit. Free to enter at all times; the Dubai Museum inside Al Fahidi Fort charges AED 3.
