Riva Beach Club on the Palm Jumeirah is what Italians call dolce vita made material - a glamorous beach club and restaurant where the agenda for the day runs from sun loungers and aperitivo to long, unhurried pasta lunches and an evening social that builds naturally into dinner. The Italian menu is genuine: handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza, excellent burrata, whole grilled fish. The kitchen does not overcomplicate things, which is exactly right for the setting. The Palm location means spectacular Gulf views and a private beach that earns its premium. The crowd skews international, affluent, and relaxed in the particular way that good beach clubs encourage. Service is slick without being stiff. Book a sun lounger with a drinks minimum for the full experience - it's the kind of afternoon that extends effortlessly into evening without any effort at all.
