Ibn Battuta Mall takes its name from the 14th-century Moroccan explorer who travelled from Morocco to China, and the six themed courts - Tunisia, Andalusia, Persia, India, China and Egypt - each recreate the architecture of the civilisation Ibn Battuta visited with genuine architectural ambition. The Egypt Court's domed ceiling alone is worth the visit for first-timers. The retail mix is mid-market international brands plus a strong food court and VOX IMAX cinema. It's less fashionable than Dubai Mall and less convenient than Mall of the Emirates, but the unique architectural concept makes it worth visiting once, and JLT residents use it as a genuine neighbourhood mall.
