Dubai Mall's Olympic-sized ice rink is the social hub of downtown for families, expat teenagers and date nights alike. Regular skate sessions run throughout the day with disco lighting in the evenings, and the rink hosts weekly themed sessions - Frozen Friday and weekend DJ nights pack the ice. Skate hire is straightforward, toe-stoppers are available for beginners, and trained rink marshals keep the faster skaters from mowing down small children along the outer edge. Skating lessons ranging from complete beginner through to ice hockey fundamentals are available in block bookings. Refreshingly un-touristy - this is a neighbourhood resource more than a tourist attraction.
